Sathankulam custodial death: SC says cop ‘have to be in prison for some time’. The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined a bail plea filed by means of a police officer from Tamil Nadu. He was charge-sheeted by the CBI in the case associated with the custodial demise of father-son duo Jayaraj-Bennix in June 2020.
A bench comprising Justices Vineet Saran and B.R. Gavai referred to that in this case. The case wherein a father and his son have been brutally “overwhelmed black and blue” to demise in custody. The reason was simply violating lockdown norms. “This is a totally horrific case.
This is a case for that you have to be in prison for a few times, ” stated Justice Saran. He stated after senior attorney Anjana Prakash added for an immediate list of the bail plea. It’s filed by means of P. Raghu Ganesh, the sub-inspector of the Sathankulam police station. The station wherein Jayaraj and Bennix have been subjected to custodial torture in June 2020.
Advocate Prakash, representing the petitioner, submitted that her client wasn’t present on the station in the course of the time of the crime. The advocate argued that one of the accused died because of Covid whilst in custody. She pressed for the bail plea in the course of the vacation. But, the bench declined to furnish the listing of the petition. They declined to list in the course of the summertime season vacation.
The Supreme court referred to that the information display that there has been an eyewitness for Raghu Ganesh’s involvement in the crime. Raghu Ganesh had moved to the Supreme court to differ Madras High Court order. The Highcourt disregarded his bail application. The bench has indexed the problem for hearing after the summer vacation after June 28. On June 19, 2020, Jayaraj and Bennix have been taken into custody on an allegation.
The allegation that they’d operated their shop open past the permissible hours. inIt took place in the course of the covid regulation lockdown. After their demise in custody, the Tamil Nadu authorities passed over the investigation to the CBI.
The CBI charge-sheeted 9 police officers in reference to the case. “Our investigation discovered that the father-son duo was arrested on the night of June 19. They were allegedly tortured at the Sathankulam police station by the accused on the same night. Also to withinside the intervening night time. It took place consequent to which each of them succumbed to the accidents. They died withinside the intervening night time of June 22 and June 23, ” The CBI had stated.
