Commercial Courts in Chennai: Govt Tamil Nadu has sanctioned constitution of seven Commercial courts exclusively for the settlement of commercial Litigation.
Finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan spoke in the assembly that ₹1, 461 crores is allotted for justice department this financial year and the government is rendering all essential support to help in the early disposal of cases and speedy remedy and Render the justice.
Commercial Courts deal with all types of business Litigation including breach of contract, judicial review, corporate mergers, global restructuring, intellectual property Matters and related issues. As on date, there are no commercial courts constituted below district judge level in Tamil nadu state. There are 3 commercial divisions and 3 commercial appellate divisions constituted in Madras high court. At the district judge level, for now, the court of principal judge, City civil court in Chennai, and Principal district courts in other districts are dedicated as commercial courts.
The legal fraternity welcomed the announcement pointing out the pendency of commercial cases because the courts designated to hear commercial cases have to hear other cases too.
According to the official statistics from Madras high court, a total of 913 cases are pending before the commercial division and commercial appellate division before the principal seat and Madurai bench of the Madras high court at the end of February 2022.
